published by Samakalika Sangeetham (Charitable Trust),
assisted By Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi.

We have been bringing out from Kozhikode, Kerala, India, this Bilingual (English & Malayalam) Biannual Journal SAMAKALIKA SANGEETHAM exclusively for Music since October 2006. When we say Music, we mean all branches of Music - Music in its broadest sense, viz. Geetam, Vadyam & Nrittam in Karnatic and Hindustani, and light classicals like Ghazals, Khawali, Rabindrasangeeth, and all forms of Folk Music etc. The first issue of the Journal was released by well-known Malayalam littérateur Jnanapeeth recipient,  M.T.Vasudevan Nair in October, 2006.

The Journal is registered with the Registrar of Newspapers, New Delhi (RNI).
It also holds the Certification of ISSN and LCCN.

Procedure for Submission of Articles for Publication:

We welcome Articles, Features, Interviews with very eminent maestros and other personalities in the field, Book  /CD Reviews, Musical compositions etc. from scholars, connoisseurs from all the  branches of Music (Geetam - Vadyam - Nrittam). Contributions may be made either in English or Malayalam, the Journal being Bilingual.

Institutions/Senior Artists/Young Budding Artists (below 18 years) actively engaged in Music (Geetam-Vadyam-Nrittam) who would like to be introduced to the readers through our Columns such as ‘Institutional Highlights’/ ‘Know Your Artists’/’Young Buds’ may send a self-contained profile of themselves, giving their, academics, achievements, awards & accolades, one photograph, full residential details and activities in promoting music, not exceeding 1 page in the case of “Young Buds” and 2 Pages in other cases of A-5 size(Book Size)

Standard norms for submission of the Article:

MS Word - Font: Ariel - Font size: 10 Points - Paper Size - A 5 - Margins All the four sides 0.5"

If any Special Fonts/Symbols are used in the Article, the same should be brought to our notice, apart from sending the same along with the Article. The Article should be below 10 pages of A 5 size with not more than 40 lines per page and same should be supported with a passport size photograph, Bio-data of the author of not more than 10 lines with full postal address and e-mail ID. Tel: & Mob: No. also may be furnished to us for contact purpose, but the same will not be published. The passport size photograph of the Author & those relating to the Article sent by email, should be of higher resolution to ensure good quality. The same should be mailed as separate attachments. The dead lines for receiving the matter for April issue  and for Oct issue are Jan 31 and July 31 respectively.

SAMAKALIKA SANGEETHAM (Charitable Trust) has instituted two annual awards, titled, 

(1) 'SANGEETVIKAS AWARD' for the Best Musicological Work in Indian Classical Music first published by senior  authors in English, Hindi or Malayalam. 

(2) 'A.D.NEELAKANTAN MEMORIAL AWARD' for  young scholars doing research work for their Ph.D in Indian Classical Music, after completing their M.Phil Degree successfully. 

The above Awards, to be given for work in any branch of music in its broadest definition of Geetam, Vadyam and Nrittam, consist of a Cash Award of Rs.15001/- and a  Painting by famous Artist Kodankandath Antony Francis and a Memento for Award(1) and Cash Award of Rs.7501/- and a Memento in the case of Award(2). These awards do not provide for traveling, stay and other incidental expenses that may be incurred by the recipient in reaching  the center where the award giving function will be arranged.

Those who wish to be considered for the above awards should send two non-returnable copies of the musicological publication for Award (1) and two typed copies of the Synopsis of their M.Phil thesis in musicology not exceeding five Pages of A-4 Size in English / Hindi / Malayalam, duly certified by the Official Thesis Guide/Head of the Department of the University/College concerned for Award (2) before 31st December of the announced award year.

Recipients of award(1) during the last five years are Padmabhooshan Kavalam Narayana Panickar (2009), Padmasree Prof. S.R.Janakiraman (2010), Padmabhooshan Prof.R.C.Mehta (2011), Dr.Lakshminarayan Garg (2012) and Late Kalamandalam Padmanabhan Nair (2013)
